Marble flooring costs about ₹225–771 per sq ft in India in 2026 (material + labour) in our worked budgets: ₹225 for a standard Indian marble, ₹412 for Makrana and ₹771 for Italian. Granite works out to ₹227 and Kota stone ₹120.50. Wooden flooring is reported at ₹90–275 per sq ft installed for laminate, ₹340–650 for engineered wood and ₹650–1,680+ for solid wood; our budgets land at ₹184.80, ₹500.50 and ₹969. The worked figures include wastage, laying, finishing, skirting and handling, with every assumption shown below.

A showroom slab or plank price covers only one part of the bill. Start with the floor area, specify the material and finish, then compare the complete scope. For a measured estimate, see our interior-work BOQ service.

Stone and wooden flooring costs at a glance#

Finished floors run from ₹120.50 per sq ft for Kota to ₹969 for solid wood in our comparison. It uses 1,500 sq ft of measured floor, 120 running metres of skirting and a ready subfloor. These are SiteSetu calculation examples dated 20 October 2026, not contractor quotations or national average rates. The source-backed market ranges follow the table.

Conversion: 1 sq ft = 0.09290304 sq m exactly. Multiply a rate per sq ft by 10.7639104 to obtain an approximate rate per sq m. Divide a per-sq-m rate by the same factor for per sq ft. Rounded display rates should not replace the original quantities in a bill.

For ceramic or vitrified alternatives, use the separate tile flooring cost guide.

Use the tile calculator to turn room dimensions into tile boxes, adhesive, grout and skirting quantities before comparing finishes.

Reported material prices: what the supplier is selling#

Suppliers report Indian marble at ₹50–350 per sq ft, Italian from ₹300, granite ₹60–300, Kota ₹35–52 ex-plant and wood ₹65–1,500+, for material only. These are published supplier figures, checked on 20 October 2026; confirm city, thickness, size, stock lot and quote validity.

Indian marble flooring cost: Makrana, Rajnagar and grade#

Indian marble flooring works out to ₹225 per sq ft for a standard Rajnagar-type selection and ₹412 for Makrana in our worked budget. A place name is not a complete purchase specification. For Makrana or Rajnagar marble, record the selected lot, shade variation, veins, visible repairs, thickness after finishing, slab dimensions and acceptable defects. Approve the actual slabs or a documented lot before paying for the whole floor. A small white sample cannot establish the appearance of a full room.

Our comparison assigns ₹100 per sq ft to a standard Rajnagar-type selection and ₹250 to a higher-priced Makrana selection. These are estimating assumptions within the broad reported Indian-marble bands above; they are not verified grade-specific Rajnagar or Makrana quotations. Premium selections can exceed those assumptions.

Ask whether the laying rate includes cutting and joint alignment. List the mortar or stone-compatible adhesive separately. Confirm grinding, filling, polishing and sealing in the finish scope. Studio Matrx's guide of 25 June 2026 reports marble laying labour at ₹25–60 per sq ft, bedding/adhesive at ₹12–30 when separately charged, and grinding/polishing at ₹20–60. Some contractors combine the bed with laying; adding it again would overstate the estimate. Reported marble installation breakdown.

Italian marble flooring cost: matching and finishing matter#

Italian marble flooring works out to ₹771 per sq ft in our budget, built on a ₹500 slab rate. Use the commercial stone name, actual origin and selected slab lot in the order. “Italian marble” on its own does not identify a uniform grade. Ask the installer to approve the stone's backing and the proposed fixing system before procurement.

The higher material rate makes rejected pieces and vein matching expensive. In our example, a ₹500 slab rate with a 15% purchase allowance becomes ₹575 per net sq ft before any fixing work. Have the supplier and installer prepare a cutting layout; replace the allowance with actual slab yield when that layout is available.

Our Italian inputs assume ₹57 per sq ft for laying and ₹48 for mirror polishing, within the reported marble bands of ₹25–60 for laying and ₹20–60 for grinding and polishing. Together that is ₹105 per sq ft, or ₹1,130.21 per sq m, for those services. It does not buy the marble. Confirm who supplies bedding, fillers and finishing consumables.

Granite flooring cost per sq ft#

Factory-polished granite flooring works out to ₹227 per sq ft in our budget, against ₹60–300 reported for the stone alone. For granite, specify thickness, stone name, finish, cut sizes and edge treatment. A factory-polished slab and a floor requiring on-site grinding are different scopes. Obtain a separate price for steps, nosings, borders and intricate cuts.

Our worked selection uses ₹120 per sq ft for factory-polished material, ₹35 laying labour, ₹20 bedding/jointing supplies and ₹10 edge touch-up/sealing allowance. The last three figures are our estimating inputs, not a reported granite labour tariff. There is no full-floor polishing charge in this scenario. If the supplied finish or joint levels require it, obtain a revised finishing price.

The resulting ₹227 per sq ft includes 10% floor-material allowance, skirting and handling. Quoting ₹120 as the granite flooring cost would leave much of this scope unpriced.

Kota stone flooring cost#

Kota stone flooring works out to ₹120.50 per sq ft in our budget, the cheapest finish compared here. Factory rates still need a delivery comparison. Patidar's July 2026 guide reports ₹35–52 per sq ft for calibrated 20–25 mm material before freight and laying. Finish, thickness tolerance and cut sizes should be written into the quote.

Kota Stone Suppliers' undated 2026 guide reports laying at ₹20–35, bedding at ₹10–15, and polishing at ₹10–15 per sq ft. These are separate reported components; their endpoints should not be treated as one guaranteed package. Reported Kota installation components.

Our ₹120.50 finished-floor example uses ₹45 stone, ₹25 laying, ₹15 bedding and ₹15 finishing, plus the stated allowances. On a small order far from Rajasthan, freight can materially change the comparison. Obtain a delivered price against your actual size schedule.

Wooden flooring cost: laminate, engineered and solid wood#

Wooden flooring is reported at ₹90–275 per sq ft installed for laminate, ₹340–650 for engineered wood and ₹650–1,680+ for solid wood. Ask the vendor to identify the product construction; the three names below describe different purchases.

Laminate flooring#

Laminate has a decorative wood-look surface over a manufactured core. Specify brand, product code, plank thickness, wear classification and the room-use warranty. Our ₹184.80 example assumes a factory-finished floating product; site sanding or polishing is not included or required in this scenario. It includes an assumed underlay allowance and a separate skirting package.

Engineered wood flooring#

Engineered wood has a real wood surface over a layered base. Record the wear-layer thickness as well as overall thickness. Ask which installation method the manufacturer approves and what refinishing, if any, the selected product permits. Our ₹500.50 example assumes prefinished boards with a ₹25 per sq ft fixing-system allowance. Replace it with the specified adhesive or underlay package; do not automatically purchase both systems.

Solid wood flooring#

Solid wood needs a species, dimensions, finish and installation specification. Our ₹969 example assumes prefinished boards, ₹120 laying labour and ₹35 fixing supplies per sq ft. A plywood base, battens or an unfinished product requiring site sanding/coating would need additional measured lines. A low board price cannot settle that scope.

The dated Magic Floors guide separates board supply and installation. Its reported bands appear in the comparison below. Check accessories and preparation with the vendor.

For laminate installation, Quick-Step's manufacturer instructions require attention to subfloor moisture, flatness and the selected underlay system. Its finishing guidance also provides for movement at the perimeter. Ask for recorded moisture checks and the current instructions for your exact product. A “water-resistant” label alone is insufficient to approve a wet-area detail. Quick-Step installation guidance and perimeter finishing instructions.

Labour-only versus with-material rates, in both units#

Laying labour, an installation service and a complete floor are different scopes. The table preserves the source's description. Wood installation figures may bundle some consumables; they are not audited bare-wage rates.

For a labour-only order, say who supplies the stone/boards, mortar/adhesive, grout, fillers, abrasives, sealers, machines, electricity, water and protection. Include cutting, shifting, joint treatment and cleanup explicitly. For with-material work, identify the approved product and list exclusions rather than relying on “complete” in a verbal quote.

Verified CPWD DSR 2023 stone items#

CPWD DSR 2023 prices a 25 mm Kota floor at ₹1,948.25 per sq m (₹181 per sq ft), bed and polishing included. The TCIL tender TCIL/C/PD(CG)/NVS/2025/08, BOQ items 59 and 60, reproduces these rates in its DSR-2023 columns. We verified the public tender reproduction, rather than a full consolidated CPWD book with all correction slips. TCIL schedule PDF.

11.2720 mm Kota for skirting, risers, dado or pillars; 12 mm average CM 1:3 bed; jointing and polishing₹2,354.70₹218.76

These are composite supply-and-execution schedule items, not labour-only rates. Do not add another standard polishing or bedding line to the same included scope. The ₹181 floor benchmark and our ₹120.50 worked budget have different rate bases and specifications; neither validates the other as a live quote.

For tender work, use the named edition, applicable corrections, full item description and contract adjustments. Check CPWD's DSR circulars. We have not verified a consolidated 2023 marble or granite item rate here, so no market number is labelled as one. Our CPWD DSR guide explains the schedule workflow.

BOQ measurement: floor in sq m, skirting in running metres#

Floors go in sq m, room by room, and skirting in running metres at a fixed height. Build a room-wise finish schedule and measure each floor finish, with thresholds, steps and borders identified separately. Agree the deduction and measurement rules in the work order; a saleable or built-up flat area is not a measured flooring quantity.

For a private interior BOQ, skirting can be scheduled in running metres with its height, thickness, material and profile fixed. Measure the wall lengths receiving skirting, remove door widths and add specified returns. Do not infer the perimeter from floor area: two layouts with equal areas can have different wall lengths.

If using DSR 11.27, retain its sq m billing unit. A length takeoff converts to area by multiplying length by height. For example, 120 m × 0.10 m = 12 sq m of 100 mm-high skirting. At ₹2,354.70 per sq m, the schedule amount is ₹28,256.40, equivalent to ₹235.47 per running metre at that height. This is a separate benchmark, not the skirting allowance used in our flat example.

Keep three quantities visible: net installed floor, purchased material and installed skirting. Wastage increases procurement; it does not automatically increase the paid finished-floor area. For slab orders, agree billed dimensions, usable dimensions and who owns reusable offcuts. For plank orders, round to complete packs after calculating the layout allowance.

Worked comparison: flooring a 1,500 sq ft flat#

Flooring 1,500 sq ft costs ₹1,80,750 in Kota, ₹3,37,500 in standard Indian marble and ₹11,56,500 in Italian marble on the inputs below. Scope assumption: this example treats 1,500 sq ft as net floor to finish, exactly 139.35456 sq m, and uses a separately assumed 120 m of 100 mm-high skirting. If your flat is advertised as 1,500 sq ft, measure its rooms first. The wood rows are equal-area cost comparisons; a real flat needs separate suitable finishes for bathrooms and other wet zones. Deduct those zones before ordering wood.

All choices assume a sound, level, ready subfloor and straightforward cuts. Demolition, major screed repairs, waterproofing, stair work and special inlays are outside this comparison. Prefinished wood needs no initial site coating in this scenario. The skirting package includes its own material, cutting allowance, fixing and finish, so floor-material wastage does not include skirting stock.

Input rates and procurement allowances#

Every number in this table is an illustrative estimating input, selected on 20 October 2026. Reported source bands above inform material choices and some execution inputs; the remaining allowances require project quotations. Wastage percentages are layout assumptions, not code requirements.

The finish column covers the stated polishing/finishing package, not just wages. A zero means factory finish is included in the material selection. Freight and handling are provisional allowances; confirm slab size, floor level and lift access before acceptance.

Formula: total = 1,500 × material rate × (1 + purchase allowance) + 1,500 × (laying + fixing supplies + site finish) + 120 × skirting rate + freight/handling.

Check the Italian row: purchase 1,500 × 1.15 = 1,725 sq ft, costing 1,725 × ₹500 = ₹8,62,500. Execution and fixing supplies are 1,500 × (57 + 25 + 48) = ₹1,95,000. Add 120 × ₹700 = ₹84,000 skirting and ₹15,000 handling: ₹11,56,500, or exactly ₹771 per net sq ft.

Check the laminate row independently: 1,605 sq ft × ₹120 = ₹1,92,600 for boards; 1,500 × (₹30 + ₹10) = ₹60,000 for laying and underlay; ₹21,600 + ₹3,000 for skirting and handling. Total ₹2,77,200, or ₹184.80 per sq ft. Pack-size rounding may raise the actual order.

Sensitivity matters more than a rounded headline: one additional percentage point of floor-material allowance on the Italian selection costs 1,500 × 0.01 × ₹500 = ₹7,500. An extra 10 m of its skirting costs ₹7,000. Neither changes the measured floor area.

Transport, lifting and handling: settle responsibility first#

Freight, lifting and breakage sit outside slab and laying rates unless the quote says otherwise. Request separate written scope for freight to site, unloading, storage, vertical lifting, carrying to each room and removal of packing. Confirm whether the goods lift accepts the largest slab and whether the building permits its use. A service lift being available does not establish that every slab will fit.

Agree responsibility for transit breakage, rejected slabs and damage after delivery. Keep lot markings through cutting and installation so replacements can be matched. Identify who supplies protection while other trades finish their work. These are quote checklist items; the worked handling sums above are not verified local freight tariffs.

Common mistakes when comparing flooring quotes#

  • Pricing the flat's sale area. Use the measured finish area and an independently measured skirting length.
  • Calling a slab rate the finished rate. Include fixing supplies, labour, finishing and logistics.
  • Comparing different grades or systems. Record slab lot and thickness, or the exact wood product and installation method.
  • Adding waste to every line. In this example it applies to purchased floor material; labour is on net area. Check your contract's agreed basis.
  • Paying twice for polish or underlay. Identify what is already inside a composite rate or factory finish.
  • Mixing running feet and running metres. One running metre is about 3.28084 running feet. State skirting height with either unit.
  • Ignoring moisture and floor levels. Allow for inspection and any required preparation before booking the installer.
  • Treating a schedule as a live supplier offer. Keep DSR edition, reported market rates and project assumptions distinct.

Get a flooring BOQ before choosing the material#

A useful BOQ gives each room a floor finish, a measured area, a skirting length and a clear inclusion list. It lets you change the stone or wood selection while keeping quantities visible. See our BOQ for interior work, or send your drawings for an item-wise BOQ. Our desk can separate floor finishes, skirting and preparation so you can compare contractor quotes line by line.

Frequently asked questions#

What is the marble flooring cost per sq ft with material?#

Our October 2026 worked budgets are ₹225 for a standard Indian selection, ₹412 for a Makrana selection and ₹771 for Italian marble. They include the specified laying, supplies, finishing, procurement allowance, skirting and handling. Actual prices depend on the selected lot and site scope; see the reported material bands and calculation above.

What is the wooden flooring cost per sq ft in India?#

Our worked examples are ₹184.80 for laminate, ₹500.50 for engineered wood and ₹969 for prefinished solid wood per sq ft. They include the stated procurement, skirting and handling allowances. Check the source-backed ranges above, then compare quotations for the same product code, accessories and preparation.

How much does granite flooring cost per sq ft?#

Our factory-polished granite example totals ₹227 per sq ft, using ₹120 material plus 10% floor-material allowance and the stated execution, skirting and handling inputs. A different thickness, colour, finish or cutting layout changes that total.

Is Kota stone cheaper than marble?#

In this equal-area example, Kota totals ₹1,80,750 against ₹3,37,500 for standard Indian marble: a difference of ₹1,56,750. Those are selected budgets, not a universal price ranking. Freight, finish and actual supplier offers can narrow the gap.

Does Italian marble laying include polishing?#

Only when the quote says so. Laying and polishing are often priced separately: reported bands are ₹25–60 per sq ft for laying and ₹20–60 for grinding and polishing. Confirm fillers, consumables, bedding and skirting separately.

How much wastage should I allow?#

The example uses 10% for most stone and solid wood, 15% for Italian marble and 7% for laminate/engineered wood. These are assumptions for comparison. Use a slab cutting plan or a board layout and pack calculation to set the actual purchase quantity; matching and complex patterns may require more.

Is skirting measured in running metres or square metres?#

A private BOQ can use running metres with a fixed height and profile. DSR 11.27 uses square metres. Convert length × height when matching that item: 120 m of 100 mm-high skirting is 12 sq m. Never apply its sq-m rate directly to 120 running metres.
