How the estimate is worked out
Each rate is built from your city's prices for cement, steel, sand, aggregate, bricks and a mason's day, with the same quantities per unit as our published rate analyses. The RCC rate, for example, reproduces our 2026 build-up of ₹8,649 per cum for site-mixed M25. Finishes, doors, electrical and plumbing use market rates for each quality level.
Quantities are typical for an RCC-framed house on isolated footings with 3 m floor heights: about 3.9 kg of steel and 8.4 bricks per sq ft of built-up area. The frames we have measured from real drawings averaged 98 to 110 kg of steel per cum of concrete; this estimate uses about 104 kg. A 5% contingency is added, and the result is shown as a range of ±10%.
Rate posts behind the numbers: RCC rate per sq ft · Brickwork rate per sq ft · Plaster rate per sq ft · Shuttering rate per sq ft. For the structure alone, element by element, use the RCC construction cost calculator. Material quantities for single items are on the material calculators, and city-by-city context is in the construction cost per sq ft guide.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to build a house in India in 2026?
On national-average prices, a standard-quality house costs about ₹1,900 per sq ft of built-up area with material, so a G+1 house of 1,000 sq ft a floor comes to ₹34 lakh to ₹41.6 lakh. Economy finishes bring it down to about ₹1,600 per sq ft and premium finishes take it to about ₹2,400. City prices move these by about ±10%; pick your city in the calculator.
What does a 1,000 sq ft house cost to build?
About ₹18.5 lakh to ₹22.6 lakh for a ground-floor house of 1,000 sq ft at standard quality, with material, on national-average prices. Economy finishes: about ₹17.7 lakh. Premium finishes: about ₹25.6 lakh.
How much cement, steel and sand does a 1,000 sq ft house need?
For a 1,000 sq ft ground-floor RCC-framed house: about 457 bags of cement for the RCC, PCC, brickwork and plaster, 4.3 tonnes of steel, 1,302 cft of sand, 1,859 cft of aggregate and 8,398 bricks. Tiling and flooring mortar is extra.
What is the labour cost per sq ft for house construction?
Labour alone comes to about ₹600 per sq ft of built-up area for a standard G+1 house on national-average wages. That covers the civil work, tiling, painting, electrical and plumbing labour. Choose "Labour only" in the calculator for your city.
What is not included in the estimate?
Land, plan approval and municipal fees, architect and structural design fees, GST on contractor bills, interiors and furniture, borewell, lift and solar. Add these separately.
How close will this be to my real cost?
It uses typical quantities for an RCC-framed house, so it is a budget figure, not a quote. Your column grid, spans, soil, number of toilets and finishes decide the real quantities. A BOQ measured from your drawings gives the exact quantities, item by item.
Can I download the estimate?
Yes. The Excel file has the item-wise estimate with quantities, rates and formulas, a materials sheet and the prices used, so you can change any rate and the totals update.
Need the exact cost, not an estimate?
Send your drawings and we measure every item, with the quantity and the measurement behind it, in an Excel BOQ. BOQs start from ₹2,500 per project.
