How the estimate is worked out

Concrete for each element comes from typical quantities per sq ft for an RCC-framed house with 3 m floor heights. Steel and shuttering follow from the concrete, with a ratio for each element: columns carry the most steel per cum, slabs the least. The rates are built from your city's prices for cement, steel, sand, aggregate and a mason's day, the same way as our RCC rate analysis (₹8,649 per cum for site-mixed M25 in our worked example).

Concrete grade changes the cement per cum (about 7, 8.2 and 8.8 bags for M20, M25 and M30). A raft is taken as 300 mm for a single storey plus 50 mm for each floor above, spread 10% beyond the building. The footings, plinth beams and columns here are the same as in our house construction cost calculator, so the two tools agree.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RCC construction cost per sq ft in 2026?

For a typical G+1 house frame on isolated footings, the RCC (footings, columns, beams, slabs, staircase, with steel and shuttering) costs about ₹750 per sq ft of built-up area with material, on national-average prices. A single-storey frame costs more per sq ft, about ₹850, because the footings and plinth beams are shared by less floor area. A raft foundation takes a G+1 frame to about ₹950.

How much steel is needed for a 1,000 sq ft house?

About 4.3 tonnes for a 1,000 sq ft ground-floor RCC frame, or 4.3 kg per sq ft. A G+1 house of 1,000 sq ft a floor needs about 7.9 tonnes (3.9 kg per sq ft). Long spans, cantilevers and seismic zones IV and V need more.

How much cement does the RCC of a 1,000 sq ft house need?

About 369 bags for the RCC and the PCC below the footings of a 1,000 sq ft ground-floor house in M25, or 0.37 bags per sq ft. Brickwork and plaster take more cement on top; the house construction cost calculator includes them.

What is the labour rate for RCC work per sq ft?

Labour alone for the RCC frame, including steel fixing and shuttering, comes to about ₹200 per sq ft of built-up area for a G+1 house on national-average wages. Choose "Labour only" in the calculator for your city.

Raft or isolated footings: how much does the cost change?

For a G+1 house of 1,000 sq ft a floor, a raft adds about ₹4.2 lakh to the frame, from ₹14.9 lakh to ₹19.1 lakh. The structural engineer chooses the foundation from the soil report, not from cost.

What is not included?

Plinth filling, masonry, plaster, flooring and every finish, design fees and GST on bills. For the whole house, use the house construction cost calculator.

How close will this be to my structure's real cost?

It uses typical quantities for an RCC-framed house, so it is a budget figure, not a quote. Your column grid, spans, beam sizes, soil and seismic zone decide the real concrete and steel. A BOQ and bar bending schedule measured from your structural drawings give the exact quantities.
