BOQ for a compound wall (boundary wall)

A compound wall BOQ is short, but each item has to follow the drawing: footing size and depth, column spacing, wall height and thickness, and whether the outer face is plastered. The worked example below shows the quantities for a typical 30 m brick compound wall with RCC columns, so you can see what a measured BOQ contains.

What to send us

  • Site plan with the wall length on each side
  • Wall section: footing, column, plinth beam, wall height and coping
  • Column spacing and gate positions
  • Ground levels, if the site slopes

PDF or CAD (DWG) both work. If something is missing, we tell you what it changes and state the assumption in the BOQ instead of guessing silently.

What the compound wall BOQ covers

EarthworkExcavation for footings and backfilling (m³)
ConcretePCC under footings, RCC footings, columns, plinth beam and coping beam (m³)
SteelReinforcement (kg)
MasonryBrickwork or blockwork between columns (m³), brick counts
FinishesPlaster on one or both faces, coping top, painting (m²)
GateGate pillars and the gate itself (numbers, kg or m²)

Every quantity comes with its L×B×D measurement sheet, so you can check any line against the drawing. See the sample BOQ for the format.

Worked example: a 30 m compound wall

30 m long, 1.8 m above ground. Eleven RCC columns of 230 × 230 mm at 3 m centres, on 0.9 × 0.9 × 0.3 m footings founded 1.2 m deep. A 230 × 300 mm plinth beam at ground level, 1.35 m of 230 mm brickwork above it, and a 230 × 150 mm coping beam. Clear length between columns: 30 − 11 × 0.23 = 27.47 m.

RCC columns11 × 0.23 × 0.23 × 2.7 m (footing top to coping top)1.57 m³
RCC plinth beam27.47 × 0.23 × 0.30 m1.90 m³
RCC coping beam27.47 × 0.23 × 0.15 m0.95 m³
Brickwork, 230 mm27.47 × 0.23 × 1.35 m8.53 m³
Bricks, conventional size8.53 m³ × 494 per m³ (CPWD DAR allowance)about 4,210
Plaster, both faces2 × 30 × 1.8 m108 m²
Backfilling14.03 − 0.83 − 2.67 − columns below ground 0.5210.0 m³

Total RCC is 7.09 m³, or about 0.24 m³ per running metre, and brickwork is about 0.28 m³ per metre, which is about 140 bricks per metre. Steel depends on the bar details and is measured from them. Change the column spacing, footing size or wall height and every line moves, which is why a per-metre rate from another site is only a starting point.

From a project we measured

Boundary wall for a G+2 villa

Two wall options measured and priced separately, adding about 3,370 bricks for one layout and 1,810 for the other, so the owner could choose before ordering

What usually goes wrong in a compound wall estimate

  • Sloping ground. Footings step down, and wall height changes along the length, so one section does not fit the whole wall.
  • Gate pillars and the gate left out.
  • Plaster on the outer face assumed when the drawing leaves it as exposed brick, or the other way round.
  • Walls taller than about 2 m built to a house-wall section without a structural check.

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks are needed per metre of compound wall?

It depends on height and thickness. In the worked example (230 mm wall, 1.35 m of brickwork between plinth and coping beams), it is about 140 conventional bricks per running metre on the CPWD allowance of 494 bricks per m³. Modular bricks and actual brick sizes on your site change the count.

Can you prepare a BOQ for a precast compound wall?

Yes. A precast wall is counted in posts and panels (numbers), with the post foundations measured in m³. Send the supplier's drawing or the layout.

How long does a compound wall BOQ take?

Usually under 48 hours, depending on project complexity and scope. We confirm scope and timing on WhatsApp after seeing the drawings.
